Flat, small and flesh in color or tiny bumps are considered genital warts. In men, the typical areas of growth include the penis as well as near or in the anus or between the scrotum and penis. For women, around the vulva, in the vagina and on the cervix are locations for the growth. They are typically small in size and some are so small they can hardly be seen.

Medical treatment for genital wart removal involves one of several approaches. The first technique involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. This process is known as cryotherapy which is an excellent solution as there are few side effects and response rates are high.
Genital wart removal can also be done by laser for extensive or recurring circumstances. Local, regional or general anesthesia may be required. The wart is physically destroyed by the laser. Some disadvantages of this procedure include increased healing time, high cost, scarring and sometimes production of infectious viral particles in the air caused by the laser.
Another course of action for genital wart removal is using an electric current called electrodesication. Only local anesthesia is needed for this office technique. Another treatment performed under local anesthesia in a medical office is cutting the warts away as long as they are small in number and size. This procedure also has high success and low recurrence rates with cure rates as high as 91%.
A final treatment for genital wart removal is the use of special chemicals. Such methods may require several applications for a duration of several weeks before the warts dissolve. Chemicals purchased at the store for removal of warts on the hands should not be used for genital wart removal as they can make your skin very sore.
In general, genital warts should be removed as they are infectious and can spread to other people if the proper precautions are not taken.
